Josh Richardson set to undergo further operation

JOSH RICHARDSON: Remains in Bangkok Hospital in a serious condition.

JOSH RICHARDSON’S hopes of returning to the UK to continue his recovery from head injuries sustained in a road traffic accident while on holiday in Thailand have suffered a blow.

Talks were nearing a conclusion to get the former Bradford Bulldogs’ defenceman flown back home more than six weeks after the accident which has left him in Bangkok Hospital where he he has undergone several operations.

But his planned flight has been shelved after complications arose relating to his injuries meaning he faces another operation on Saturday morning.

His dad Jim remains out in Bangkok at his bedside and said it was frustrating to hear that Josh would not be coming home as they had hoped.

“The operation will be non invasive but will take a long time as it’s a delicate task being so close to his brain,” said Jim. “If this one is a success then they will hopefully not have to do another operation.

“It’s going to take around three hours. Hopefully, it will do the trick and we can get Josh home sooner rather than later.”

Back home, friends and family continue to do what they can to raise money towards the rising cost of Josh’s treatment out in Thailand, which is now to be just over £100,000.

So far, the Go Fund me page set up to raise money has got to £22,376.

His current team Deeside Dragons and his former club Bradford Bulldogs are continuing to raise funds through collections at their respective home games, while the teams are hoping to stage a post-season friendly game to further help the fund-raising.
