Bulldogs Under-14s enjoy road trip to Coventry Blaze but Under-12s' away day proves tough going
BULLDOGS’ Under-14s had a busy weekend, emerging triumphant with two wins - one in North Division One at Coventry Blaze, the other in a challenge game on home ice against Leeds Junior Knights B.
The Under-12s were also in action, looking for revenge over their Kingston Sharks counterparts - this time on the road - but they lost out when their East Yorkshire rivals emerged as 3-0 winners, adding to the 3-1 win they enjoyed at Bradford the week before.
In Coventry, Under-14 Blaze goalie Tye White kept the Bulldogs at bay until 4.16 when Frank O’Sullivan broke the deadlock.
It was 6-0 by the end of the first, however, as further goals came from Will Durgan (2), Danny Harrison, Thomas Taylor - his first as and Under-14 - and O’Sullivan.
Five more goals came in the second period - with O’Sullivan and Harrison both taking their personal tallies to four before, just nine seconds into the third, Leo Marsden bagged his first goal as an Under-14, bringing in the mercy rule at 12-0.
Further goals followed against a spirited Coventry team, Josh Guy (2), O’Sullivan, Kieran Smith and Durgan adding to the overall tally.
On Sunday, a Bulldogs’ Select team welcomed Leeds Junior Knights to The Pound for an entertaining Challenge Game.
Thomas Taylor broke the deadlock at 3.47 but it was Leeds who went in ahead at the break through strikes from Charlie Shaw an Seth Else.
The lead increased to 3-1 at 16.49 through Harry Harling and although Leo Marsden quickly made it a one-goal game again, Leeds restored their two-goal advantage through Caiden Mellor at 21.19.
But then the Bulldogs went on a scoring spree to establish a 6-4 lead by the end of the second period, Taylor completing a hat-trick before Alfie Edmondson chipped in with two of his own.
Layden Fletcher-Robb got in on the act just 56 seconds into the third and, after a swift reply from Zach Harling to make it 7-5 at 31.41, Edmondson completed a memorable hat-trick just over a minute later.
Further strikes followed for the Bulldogs from Kyle Bower, Marsden, Fletcher-Robb and Sam Bain and although Leeds hit back through efforts from TJ Piennaar-Dyke and a second from Else, the home side held on for the win.
Bulldogs Under-12s found it tough going in Hull, conceding a goal in each period to go down 3-0.
Luke Paddison broke the deadlock at 12.17 before Elliott Beddoes doubled the lead at 28.11.
The win was completed when Beddoes doubled his tally and made it 3-0 at 33.07.
