Past meets the present as Bradford Bulldogs hit £2,000 mark in big fund-raising event for Breast Cancer Now

Team Dacres and Team Baldwin come together at the end of the Charity Game Day in support of Breast Cancer Now at Bradford Ice Rink on Saturday.

BRADFORD BULLDOGS enjoyed a successful Charity Game Day, with the club hoping to have raised at least £2,000 for its chosen beneficiary, Breast Cancer Now.

More than 300 people came through the doors at Bradford Ice Arena on Saturday afternoon to watch two Bulldogs’ teams comprising past and present players face-off against each other.

The game - featuring former players such as Kieran Brown, Luke Boothroyd, Bobby Streetly, Lewis Baldwin among a host of others, was eventually won by Team Baldwin 11-7 against Team Dacres - named after the two coaches who ran the benches for the afternoon.

And while there was enough skill and light-hearted play on the ice to keep the crowds entertained, it was what happened off the ice that mattered most on the day.

Home-made cakes, fudge and lollipops sold out to help raise funds, along with specially-made club merchandise. A 50-50 draw was held, along with a raffle where the first prize was a special pink Bradford Bulldogs hoodie, signed by all of the players.

Bulldogs’ head coach Andy Brown, who helped organise the event and played on the losing team, coached by Charles Dacres, said the event had been an unqualified success.

“It was the first time we had tried something like this and we’re so glad that we were able to make it such a great afternoon for everybody,” said Brown.

“We had more than 300 come through the doors and it helped create a great atmosphere, the best it has been in this building for a long time.

“Everybody from the spectators to the players bought in. It was great that we were able to get so many of our former players to come back and take part and help raise money for such a terrific cause such as Breast Cancer Now.

“We also had a team of volunteers who put loads of effort into making the event run successfully and I’d like to thank each and every one of them.”

The club is in the process of assembling a number of the game-worn jerseys to auction online in the coming weeks to raise further funds for Breast Cancer Now.

The club has left its Just Giving page open in case anyone wishes to donate. You can find it HERE
