Bulldogs’ Junior Review: Under-16s, Under-12s and Under-10s
IT WAS another busy weekend for our Bulldogs’ Junior teams, with our Under-16s, Under-12s and Under-10s - in their first round of games for the year - all taking to the ice.
The Under-12s were first out when they hosted Nottingham at The Pound on Saturday afternoon and went behind through early strikes from Seth Brown and Max Wightman before two from the stick of Seb Lewis and efforts from Lukasz Hanretty and Lawrence Newman put the visitors 6-0 ahead by the first break.
Ronnie Hought and a second from Newman sealed the win in the second period.
Timur Sprogis picked up the Bulldogs’ Spirit of the Game award.
The Under-10s played three competitive games when they joined hosts Sutton, Sheffield and hosts Nottingham for their first X-ice jamboree of the season.
Against Sheffield, Robson Bagott (assisted by Oliver Toney) and Teddy Barnett (Conor Donaghey) got on the board with goals in an 11-2 defeat.
Sutton were the next opponents and, in a close-fought encounter, the Bulldogs goals came from Zachary Mayoh and a guest player from Nottingham in an 8-2 defeat.
The final game of the afternoon brought the Bulldogs up against the hosts in a cracking clash, which eventually went the wsy of Nottingham, 8-5.
Robson Bagott and Arnie Evans led the scoring with a two goals and an assist apiece, with Denis Sprogis (Jack Clarke, Donaghey) also getting on the board and Oliver Toney picking up another assist on the day.
Team assistant manager Liz Bagott praised all the Bulldogs’ youngsters for their efforts, especially debutants Teddy Barnett, Teddy Holland, Jack Clarke, Sophia MAyoh, Alice Mayoh, Arnie Evans and Jacob Macintyre.
She added: “They all played really well and we had so many scoring chances, that weither went just over or just wide.
“Every kid played well and with a big smile all day!”
At the end of the jamboree, Jacob Macintyre was awarded the Spirit of the Game award for the Bulldogs.
Down in Telford the Bulldogs’ Under-16s looked to build on their 6-3 opening day win at Whitley Bay but, despite taking the lead, came off second-best in a 3-1 defeat.
Having gone close with a number of chances in an even first period, the visitors went ahead at 19.04 through captain Danny Harrison, a lead they held until there were just 56 seconds of the second period left, when Telford levelled through Joshua Mbayo on the power play.
The third period was less than two minutes old when the hosts forged ahead through a Jack Williams strike.
The lead doubled 36.43 when Riley Greaves deflected effort got past an unsighted Jacob Mardell and, despite creating a number of chances, the Bulldogs couldn’t find a way back into the game.
Ethan Marsden deservedly picked up the Spirit of the Game award for the Bulldogs.
